Tools that run on kosa8
kosa8 serves a Docker-compatible API, so tools that drive Docker can drive kosa8 instead. These are the ones we have tested, including the ones that do not work yet.
01Tested and working
Tested with kosa8 v0.9.10. Each guide lists the exact versions it was tested with, the steps that were run and what still does not work.
Testcontainers
Python (Redis, Postgres, Kafka), Java (PostgreSQLContainer) and Node (GenericContainer) passed. Needs DOCKER_HOST and Ryuk switched off.
smolagents
The Docker code executor builds its own image and runs code on kosa8 with its default settings.

DockerSandboxClient creates a sandbox, writes and reads files, runs commands in the workspace and exports it.
dockerode
The Node Docker client pulls images, creates and starts containers, runs exec and reads logs.
02Tested and not working yet
These were tested against kosa8 v0.9.10 on 15 October 2026 and failed.
- Testcontainers' reaper, Ryuk. Ryuk asks for the Docker API socket to be mounted into its container. kosa8 refuses that on purpose, because a container holding the socket controls every other container. Keep
TESTCONTAINERS_RYUK_DISABLED=true; the error message says so too. - Gemini CLI sandbox on Apple silicon (
GEMINI_SANDBOX=docker, Gemini CLI 0.64.0). Its sandbox image is published forlinux/amd64only, so on an arm64 Mac the container fails withExec format error. It also bind-mounts~/.config/gcloud, which has to be on the--allow-mountlist. - Removing images through the Docker API.
DELETE /images/{name}is not served yet, sodocker rmireturns a 404 and the image stays (docker rmi -fhides the 404 but removes nothing). Usekosa8 rmiinstead.docker system dfis not served yet either.
03How these were tested
Every tool was pointed at kosa8 with DOCKER_HOST=unix://$HOME/.kosa8/run/kosa8.sock and run without changes to kosa8. No API keys were needed, and none of the tests called an LLM. A tool is listed as working only if its test passed. kosa8 v0.9.10 reports itself to Docker clients as Docker Engine 28.3.0, API 1.51.
